Thanksgiving is just around the corner and it's a great occasion to spend time with family and friends. Unfortunately, it can turn tragic if you don’t take proper fire safety measures to protect your loved ones. Thanksgiving is the leading day of the year for home fires involving cooking equipment. In 2016, U.S. fire departments responded to an estimated 1,570 home cooking fires on Thanksgiving day. Follow these easy tips to protect your family and friends from tragedy:
1. Keep a fire extinguisher close.
2. Keep an eye on children while cooking as the stove will be hot. Kids should stay at least three feet away from appliances, hot food and liquids.
3. If you fry a turkey, do it away from the home and make sure the bird is completely thawed before cooking.
4. Don’t overfill the fryer with cooking oil.
From everyone at Quorum Insurance, we wish you and yours a Happy Thanksgiving!
