As we come to the end of the first quarter and head into spring, I'm reminded of the old saying, "April showers bring May flowers". But the springtime rains also remind me that hurricane season is right around the corner.
From June 1st through November 30th each year we brace ourselves as we prepare for whatever Mother Nature has in store. This year the outlook is calling for 11 named storms, including five hurricanes, two of which are predicted to be major storms (Category 3 or stronger).
Hurricanes can bring inland flooding. Are you prepared? Here are some tips you can follow to make sure you're ready to weather the storms.
- Monitor any tropical storm systems. Make sure you and your family are aware of storm paths and pay attention to any flood-related advisories or warnings for your community.
- Make sure you have an emergency plan and contact. Plan and practice a flood evacuation route and ask someone out of state to be a "family contact" in case you are separated from loved ones.
- Get flood insurance. Ask one of our agents for a free no-obligation flood insurance quote. Keep in mind, most flood insurance policies impose a 30-day waiting period, so you should act now to protect your property.
Just an inch of water from flooding can cause thousands of dollars in damage. Keep your mind at ease and your money in your wallet by protecting your property with flood insurance. Call for your quote or complete our online quote request form today!
